Seemingly Inspired by Cosplay – Star Wars Barbies are here

There seems to be an infinite amount of Star Wars merchandise out there. Beyond just the usual t-shirts and toys, you can even get a Star Wars arcade machine and furniture inspired by the Dark Side. Now…there’s Star Wars Barbie.

Mattel and Disney have joined forced to release Star-Wars-themed Barbie dolls this fall. The collection includes Princess Leia, Darth Vader, and R2-D2. (Sorry, fans of C-3PO, Chewbacca, and Han Solo.)

As if Barbie decided to go to Fanboys Comic Con, the dolls’ designs are more like cosplay than accurate representations of our beloved characters. For instance, the Leia doll’s look is inspired by her iconic dress from A New Hope, but adds some high-fashion with a rebel-alliance purse, high heels, redesigned buns.

The Darth Vader and R2-D2 barbies are a bit more imaginative, complete with a long black cape and pencil skirt, and blue ponytail and thigh-high boots.

Perhaps C-3PO fans are in a bit of luck. As one Twitter user pointed out, it looks like the R2-D2 barbie has turned the droid into her purse.

These dolls won’t be released until November 18, but you can preorder them now (links below to do so), so they’ll come in just in time to make a great holiday gift for your favorite Star Wars fan (or yourself).
