Kevin Smith becomes the Master of the Universe

… on Netflix.

Kevin Smith, iconic director of Clerks and the masterpiece, Mallrats will be at the helm of Masters of the Universe: Revelation, a continuation of the beloved 80s cartoon about Prince Adam and his superpowered alter-ego, He-Man. It will feature the continued battles of He-Man and his foe, Skeletor, and explore what happened after the ending of the original series.

The series will “will focus on some of the unresolved storylines of the classic ‘80s show.” The art style of this reboot will differ and be more ‘anime’. Netflix has already done something similar with their series She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, itself based on a He-Man spin-off. Rob David, author of the comic He-Man: The Eternity War, is attached as an executive producer.

The show will be animated by Powerhouse Animation Studios, which also worked on Netflix’s Castlevania series. A release date has not been announced.
